Nintendo Switch’s Fans Begin to Drift Away, But Why?

Posted on:

It’s no secret that the Nintendo Switch has become one of the world’s most beloved gaming consoles in a very short time. It’s taken bars, restaurants, and living rooms by storm with its undying popularity over the last 3 years. But what makes it seemingly unbeatable is also starting to become its Achilles heel as more and more gamers are beginning to drift away from using the Switch due to a variety of reasons. In fact, PS5 is the most popular console in West Virginia and many other states in the United States, beating Switch like nothing since its first release. But how could it be happening? Why does it seem like Nintendo Switch has started losing its gamers? Read on for the answers.

Super Expensive First-Party Gamesnintendo

Let’s be honest. Games in the Nintendo Switch library are pricey. In comparison to other systems, their games are priced way above the competition, which can be a huge deterrent for gamers who cannot afford them. While there is a free-to-play option available in the form of Fortnite Battle Royale, most of their titles require you to pay an upfront cost that some may not be willing to spare. In fact, this is one of the key factors driving players away from Nintendo Switch and towards other consoles where they can enjoy similar titles.

Limited Third-Party Support

The lack of third-party support has also been cited as an issue that causes Nintendo Switch users to migrate away from the platform. While Nintendo has been able to secure a few third-party titles from major developers like Ubisoft, Bethesda, and Rockstar Games, their offerings are limited compared to other systems. This is mainly because most studio executives are hesitant to invest resources into Switch as they believe it won’t reach the same level of success as its rivals in terms of sales. As a result, gamers who are looking for more variety in their gaming experience may be forced to look elsewhere.

Unattractive Online Experiences

The Nintendo Switch Online service also leaves much to be desired. Unlike its competitors, the online services offered by the Switch are quite basic and lack the extra features that make them appealing to diehard fans of online gaming. Many users have voiced dissatisfaction with the limited offerings such as voice chat, matchmaking, and cloud saving. As a result, gamers are becoming increasingly disinterested in the Switch and choosing to play on other systems that offer more features.

The Built Design Issue

switchEvery time we visit gamers’ forums on Twitter, Reddit, and other websites, we can see that gamers are complaining about the built design of the Nintendo Switch. One major complaint is how the docking system constantly scratches the screen, which can eventually damage the console. Also, the joy-cons have been discussed a lot due to their poor ergonomics and lack of buttons. Although the Switch has gotten some design updates over the years, such as an improved battery and better cooling system, it still falls short in comparison to its competitors when it comes to built design.

All in all, though, we’ve got to admit that Nintendo Switch, with its main gimmick, has been a huge success, the lack of third-party support, expensive first-party games, and unattractive online experiences in combination with its built design issues have started to make gamers drift away from this console. As such concerns become more and more visible amongst the gaming community, Switch’s fan base may start shrinking even further if Nintendo fails to address these issues.…
